Imitating Christ In Daily Life

Did You Hear About The New Neighbors? Avoiding Curious Inquiry into the Life of Another

In our discussion with Christ, our Lord advises us to follow Him rather than seeking fame and popularity.  Staying out of other people’s business is a distracting mess, and since we only have to answer for our own actions, that should be our chief concern.  Thomas then tells us that if we spent as much time pursuing holiness, through Scripture or prayer; as we do pursuing gossip and fame, that we would soon find Christ in all our pursuits.

Book III, Chapter XXIV :   Avoiding Curious Inquiry into the Life of Another

Christ:  “My Son, do not be curious, or trouble yourself with vain cares (1 Tim 1:4). What is that to you?  Follow Me (John21:22Matt 4:19).

For what is it to you whether a man be this or that, or say or do this or that?  You have no need to answer for others, but you must give an answer for yourself.  Why, therefore, do you entangle yourself?

Behold, I know all people, and see all things which are done under the sun (Ecc 1:14); and I know how it stands with each one, what is thought, what is desired, and to what end these desires reach.  Therefore, commit all things to Me; watch yourself in godly peace, and leave those who are busybodies to be unquiet. Whatever is said or done by such a one, shall come back on to him, for I cannot be deceived.

Ideas - 322. “Do not trouble yourself about the shadow of a great name, nor about friendships, nor about the love of others towards you. For these things promote distraction and great heartfelt sorrows. My word should speak freely to you, and in it I will reveal secrets, if only you diligently look for My appearing, and open up to Me the gates of your heart.  Be sober, watch and pray,(1 Pet 4:7;Matt 26:41) and humble yourself in all things.”
